Summary: | This is a picture (taken on February 28, 1942) of Deacon, who belonged to Eugene Sledge when he was a young man growing up in Mobile. In the book Sledge recounts how he broke down and cried during the fighting on Okinawa when he got the letter from his parents telling him Deacon had died. |
