Description
Summary:Paul Fussell wrote this letter to Eugene B. Sledge on November 14, 1989. In it he promised to take care of corrections for Sledge's book, With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa, which was being reprinted by Oxford University Press with a new introduction by Fussell. Sledge had written the book to describe his combat experiences in the Pacific in World War II. Fussell complained a bit about his own struggles with Oxford. He also commented on the nature of military actions as a series of screw-ups. Sledge and Fussell corresponded for many years. What began as an admiration of each other's writing grew into a friendship based on their similar combat experiences in World War II and their shared attitudes on many things.
