Description
Summary:This image is a watercolor conceptual painting of a South American legation, e.g. embassy, done by Miriam Toulmin in 1934. The top quarter of the painting shows the front view of the main embassy building and its doors, windows, columns, covered balcony, architectural moldings, and statues on the roof. There is a driveway and grass in front of the building and two smaller buildings behind and to the sides of the main building with all surrounded by trees and landscaping. There are people visible inside and outside the building. The main part of the painting shows the floor plans for the two floors of the main embassy building with its rooms, walls, corridors, doors, windows, columns, and interior stairs within a frame of trees. There is a patio behind the embassy and a circular driveway in front. In the lower right corner, there are an inscription which reads "Second Medal, Presentation Commended," a red star, an Alabama Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture stamp and the artist's signature. The painting is in poor condition with an entire corner missing and a large tear running halfway up the painting from the torn corner and is encapsulated.
