This image is a watercolor conceptual painting of an Italian Renaissance ceiling done by John Cooper sometime between 1917 and 1942. The painting shows the ceiling with its architectural moldings and decorative artwork with lions and crowns. The center square of the ceiling is a scene of a courtyard surrounded by a columned porch with a doorway and peaked roof at one end. The courtyard in the scene contains a fountain and men and there are mountains in the background. The painting has the title: "An Italian Ceiling XVI Cent." At the bottom of the painting is a detailed close-up of one of the moldings and a side view of the ceiling. In the lower right corner there is the artist's signature. To the left of the signature is a label which reads: "88." Above the signature is an Alabama Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture stamp and the handwritten inscription "2nd Medal HC" in red. The painting is in good condition and is encapsulated. |
